UNITY
Dear Fellow Guild Members,
In the wake of
Cannonfodder’s resignation from the guild I must address a particular issue,
UNITY. CF left the guild because he objected to my questioning of his
leadership style. I am sad that he chose to quit. Although I am disappointed
by his choice, I am not angry with him. I encouraged him to rejoin as a
non-officer so he wouldn’t be burdened by my supervision, but he refused. My
last request of him was to write a letter to the guild explaining his
decision. He did not reply to that request. He was a great member and a
really nice person who I will always respect.
The guild is like a team.
We need to stick together. To some of our more sensitive members it is more
like a family. Many of us have made friends within the guild and this is a
wonderful thing. I hope that none of you forget that in hard times when
tension is high and tempers are flaring. We want all members to work
together and be friends but now and then people will say the wrong thing or
joke in an insensitive manner. Even though this is just a game, the players
are real people with feelings. As the guild leader I feel a responsibility
to do all I can to prevent members from hurting one another.
Some guilds have a very
large membership, which grants them some luxuries that we do not have yet.
But most such guilds pay little attention to the behavior of their members
and are insensitive towards their feelings for each other. Yggdrasil’s
Children is going to continue to grow and will become a huge guild, but
never at the expense of our comfortable and pleasant atmosphere. I want the
guild to have as few rules as possible and allow our members the freedom to
play in whichever style suits them. But I will be hard as nails to anyone
who threatens the guild’s pleasant personality. No member will be permitted
to threaten, intimidate or embarrass another. If this is your idea of fun
then leave the guild.
If you find yourself in an
awkward or distressing conflict with another member. Please remember that
you have many friends who will help you resolve that problem. If you quit
the guild before trying to find a resolution, then you betray the guild and
it hurts people. Even if you have a problem with me, please speak to
Magnimar about it. Quitting is a very poor solution and is a disservice to
the guild. We are building a really great guild, I hope that all of you will
be with us for a long time.
Thank you for
your loyalty!
